Fact or Myth: Printing out lots of paper is bad for the Environment

Many years ago, at PPS Print we decided that we had a great responsibility to conduct our business in a way that always considers our impact on the environment.

Over the last number of years we have put a number of policies and procedures in place to help this and we are delighted to have achieved the “Green” level of accreditation in the Investors in The Environment scheme (IiE), managed by Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT).

Sourcing your printed materials from PPS gives you the option of showing The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) logo on your items and this reflects the fact that the paper is derived from an FSC®-accredited sustainable forest where trees are planted specifically for timber production.

When paper is produced from sustainable sources it means that for several years, or even decades, there was a tree growing that would otherwise perhaps never been planted and as you know, those trees soak up carbon dioxide from the air and produce oxygen in return.  The cycle of planting and harvesting trees does have particular environmental benefits.  Younger, actively growing trees absorb more carbon dioxide and produce more oxygen that overly mature trees.

So although there is an environmental impact from paper production, as there is with all industry, when paper is made from properly managed timber it can be seen as a welcome end of a tree working to preserve nature’s natural balance.
